Implantologia basata sull'evidenza
The International Team for Implantology (ITI) is an independent, non-profit, membership-based academic association in implant dentistry. Founded in 1980 and headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, it counts more than 25,000 Fellows and Members organised in 38 national and regional Sections worldwide — making it one of the largest academic organisations in the field.
Its stated purpose is “inspiring global excellence in implant dentistry for the benefit of the patient” (iti.org). In practice, the ITI funds independent research with an annual research budget of USD 2.2 million, runs consensus conferences whose statements underpin published treatment guidelines, publishes the ITI Treatment Guides, and maintains clinical tools such as the SAC classification used to grade the complexity of implant cases.
The ITI also has a decades-long academic partnership with Straumann — the Swiss implant system that leads our own implant portfolio.
Cosa indica l'adesione
ITI membership signals a commitment to evidence-based implantology: planning and placing implants inside the framework of published protocols, consensus statements and treatment guidelines, rather than by habit or by whatever a supplier happens to promote. It also signals continuing education — the ITI exists to keep clinicians current with the documented state of the field.
It is equally important to say what membership is not. The ITI is a professional academic association, not a regulator: membership is not a licence, not a ranking of clinics, and never a guarantee of any individual outcome. What it tells you is that our clinical team chooses to work inside the same evidence framework used by academic implantology internationally — and that the claim is checkable, as set out below.
The same philosophy runs through the rest of our Evidence Platform: documented implant systems such as Straumann and the other systems we place, each traceable through an implant passport with verifiable serial numbers.
La nostra adesione
Dental Med Austria is a member of the International Team for Implantology, and quality management at the clinic is ISO 9001 certified by TÜV NORD. Both affiliations link to the official body below — and both are documented in detail, together with the standards they hold us to, on our Certifications & Standards page.
Come verificarla di persona
You do not have to take an ITI logo on a website — ours included — at face value. Because the ITI is an association of individual clinicians rather than of clinics, there is no single public register of member clinics; verification runs through the clinic and through the organisation itself:
- 1Ask the clinic. Any genuinely affiliated clinic should be able to tell you, in writing, which of its clinicians hold ITI membership and in which national Section. Our clinical team will do so on request.
- 2Confirm with the ITI. The organisation is reachable through iti.org, and a membership can be confirmed with the ITI directly.
- 3Cross-check the rest of the evidence trail. An ISO 9001 certificate can be checked in the certification body's own online register (for TÜV NORD, its public certificate database), and the implant placed in your jaw can be verified with its manufacturer via the serial numbers in your implant passport.
