IV (intravenous) sedation is a monitored form of conscious sedation delivered directly into a vein, so it takes effect quickly and can be adjusted precisely throughout your appointment. At Dental Med Austria it is always administered and continuously monitored by a qualified anaesthesiologist - not simply by the dentist - which is what sets a true anaesthesiologist-led service apart. You are not put under general anaesthetic: you stay in a deeply relaxed, dream-like state, able to respond to gentle instructions, yet most patients remember little or nothing of the procedure afterward.

Throughout treatment, the anaesthesiology team tracks your vital signs - oxygen levels, heart rate, and blood pressure - using continuous monitoring, keeping your safety the first priority from the first moment to recovery. Because sedation removes the anxiety, gag reflex, and discomfort that can make long appointments difficult, it allows the surgical team to carry out more complex work calmly and in fewer visits. This makes it ideal for full-arch implant surgery, multiple extractions, bone grafting, sinus procedures, and any treatment that would otherwise feel daunting to a nervous patient.

After IV sedation you'll rest in the clinic until you're alert, and the effects wear off within a few hours, though you should not drive and will need someone to accompany you back to your accommodation.
