Dynamic navigation is often described as GPS for implant surgery. Navident, developed by ClaroNav in Toronto, Canada, tracks the surgical handpiece and the patient's jaw with an optical camera and shows the drill's angle, depth and position superimposed on the patient's own CBCT data in real time. The surgeon is no longer transferring a plan from a screen to the mouth by eye — the plan and the drill share one live picture.
Dental Med Austria runs Navident EVO, the system generation ClaroNav introduced in 2023. The manufacturer reports more than 200,000 implants placed with Navident guidance worldwide — a technology documented across a decade of clinical use, not an experiment.
One clarification worth making: Navident is the name of the navigation technology itself, made by ClaroNav — not the name of a clinic. A similar-sounding clinic name is not the same thing as operating this system. Any clinic claiming dynamic navigation should be able to show you the device and your own CBCT plan on its screen — we are happy to, at your consultation.
Navigation starts from imaging, and ours is in-house: the same Vatech A9 cone-beam CT that produces your diagnostic 3D scan produces the dataset your surgery is navigated on.

A cone-beam CT scan on our Vatech A9 captures your jaw in three dimensions — bone volume and density, the mandibular nerve canal, the sinus floor and the roots of neighbouring teeth.
On that 3D dataset, the clinical team plans each implant's exact position, angle and depth in software — around your anatomy, before any instrument touches you.
In the chair, the navigation system is registered to your anatomy so its optical camera can track both your jaw and the surgical handpiece continuously. No physical guide needs to be printed or fitted.
During surgery, the drill's angle, depth and position are displayed live, superimposed on your CBCT plan. The surgeon watches deviation from the plan in real time and can refine the plan mid-procedure if your anatomy calls for it.
The achieved implant position is checked against the plan, and the implant's brand and serial numbers are recorded in your implant passport — so what was placed is traceable for life.
Published evidence
An implant sits close to structures that do not forgive error: the mandibular nerve canal, the sinus floor, the roots of neighbouring teeth. Safe placement is a question of millimetres and degrees — which is exactly what navigation measures and displays continuously during surgery.
The accuracy figures here come from the peer-reviewed literature on the technique, not from our own marketing. A 2023 systematic review and meta-analysis in the Journal of Dentistry pooled ten years of clinical studies of dynamic navigation and reported mean positional accuracy under 1 mm — sub-millimetre precision. A 2026 meta-analysis in the Journal of Periodontal Research comparing freehand, static-guide and dynamically navigated placement found that both computer-assisted approaches transfer the digital plan to the jaw significantly more accurately than freehand placement, with no clinically relevant accuracy difference between static and dynamic.
In plain terms: the published evidence says computer guidance puts the implant measurably closer to where it was planned. We do not restate those numbers as a promise about any individual surgery — anatomy, healing and case complexity remain individual — but they are why navigated placement is part of our written surgical protocols rather than an optional extra.
