Root Canal - Single Canal

A single-canal root canal removes the infected pulp from a single-rooted tooth and seals it, ending the pain and saving the natural tooth you were told might be lost.

Root canal treatment becomes necessary when the soft pulp inside a tooth - the nerve and blood supply - becomes infected or inflamed, often from deep decay, a crack, or repeated dental work. In a single-rooted tooth such as a front tooth or many premolars, there is usually one main canal to treat, which makes the procedure more straightforward than a multi-canal molar. Left untreated, the infection can spread, form an abscess, and ultimately cost you the tooth, so addressing it early protects both your comfort and your natural smile.

The treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic and modern magnification, so we can see and clean the canal precisely. We gently remove the infected pulp, disinfect and shape the canal, then fill and seal it with gutta percha - a stable, biocompatible material - secured with an endodontic sealer that closes off the space and prevents bacteria from re-entering. Working under magnification means cleaner, more thorough treatment and a calmer experience; for most patients the appointment feels much like having a filling, and it relieves the very pain that brought them in.

At Dental Med Austria, single-canal root canals are performed to premium clinical standards in our Tirana clinic, with the same gentle, unhurried approach we apply to every treatment. International patients can begin with a free remote assessment: send us your details or recent images and we will prepare a personalised treatment plan before you travel, so you arrive knowing exactly what to expect. Because a treated tooth is more brittle, we often plan a protective crown alongside the root canal and outline both together, giving you one clear, coordinated path to a tooth that can last for years.

Mild tenderness for a few days is normal and usually eased with over-the-counter pain relief; chew carefully on that side and, where we have recommended one, return for the protective crown to guard the tooth against fracture.

Idéal pour : Patients with a single-rooted tooth whose nerve is infected or inflamed but which can still be preserved rather than extracted.

You have tooth pain or a deep infection

Modern root canal treatment saves teeth that would once have been removed, almost always the better long-term choice.

The tooth is restorable

Where enough healthy structure remains, a treated tooth is sealed and usually crowned to full strength.

Questions fréquentes

Questions sur root canal - single canal

Is a root canal painful?+

Modern root canals are done under local anaesthetic and are typically no more uncomfortable than a filling; they relieve the pain that brought you in.

Will I need a crown afterwards?+

Often yes - a treated tooth becomes more brittle, and a crown protects it from fracture. We can plan both together so you have one clear path.

How many visits will it take?+

A single-canal root canal can often be completed in one to two visits, depending on how much infection is present. We confirm your plan after assessment.

What materials do you use to seal the tooth?+

We fill the cleaned canal with gutta percha, a stable biocompatible material, secured with an endodontic sealer that closes off the space and keeps bacteria out.

Can you plan my treatment before I travel to Tirana?+

Yes. International patients can request a free remote assessment, and we will prepare a personalised treatment plan from your details or images before you arrive.
